As we start this new year I want to share with you some of the plans I have envisioned for SCRPA:
First off, Last years board did a great job getting a new platform started updating the look and feel of our website. This year I’d like to build on that great work and start adding updated and brand new content. Online media plays such a key and vital roll in communicating the upcoming events and latest news. I want to start using our site to its full potential. If you have ideas of content you’d like to see added or want to send us your pictures to add please feel free to do so.
Secondly, I would like to introduce an annual Sportsmanship Award for Men, Women and Juniors. I want to work with the board of directors to develop this award so that the membership at large can vote on the recipients of the award. So start thinking about who you would like to nominate and I will forward more details as the award criteria is developed.
Thirdly, I would like to resume paying for first time new USAR members pending on how much is in the account. And I would like to see our general membership increase in numbers. Overall and state to state we are in line with the other states as far as members but there is always room for growth. Encouraging new members is a great way to start.
And last but certainly not least, I would like to start having tournament in other locations besides Charleston, Columbia and Greenville. These tournaments could range from one day shoot-outs, women’s only, juniors only to full 3-day tournaments. We used to have tournaments throughout the whole state but now we only have a couple tournaments in the state throughout the year. I think adding locations for tournaments would make the sport more accessible to larger numbers of people, allow first timers an opportunity to see and get excited about playing.
Again, I want to encourage anyone in the general membership to share your ideas with me. This is your organization and I want to move SCRPA in a direction that fosters participation by many, encourages and grows the sport but mostly is dedicated to having fun.
Regards,
Shawn Dodd
